Motivation
At the iwb, we are researching the production of solid-state batteries with high energy density as a successor to the currently dominant lithium-ion battery. Through research projects with various academic and industrial institutions, our institute has excellent facilities to carry out the necessary research work for the production of oxide- and sulfide-based solid-state batteries. In this context, the understanding of novel processes is of great importance.
Objective
As part of this research project, sulfide-based composite cathodes and separators will be fabricated, calendered, and examined using nanoindentation. This will allow for a thorough characterization of the mechanical properties of the sulfide-based components. The recorded force-displacement curves will be used to investigate the extent to which the compaction behavior can be modeled and predicted. In addition, the possibility of transferring the uniaxial compaction in the nanoindenter to the calendering process will be investigated in order to accelerate the scaling of solid-state battery production.
