Description

Initial situation

Additive manufacturing enables the production of lightweight structural components with highly efficient geometries. By combining topology and shape optimization, material usage can be reduced while maintaining structural performance. Open-source frameworks such as Kratos Multiphysics provide a flexible environment for exploring these optimization techniques.

Task

In this thesis, a workflow for the topology and shape optimization of a metal bridge node will be developed using Kratos Multiphysics. Subsequently an implicit modeling of lattice structures based on the optimized design will be performed using nTopology. The optimized design will be assessed with respect to structural performance and suitability for fabrication by Powder Bed Fusion with Laser beam of Metals (PBF-LB/M). The thesis will be supervised in collaboration with the Chair of Structural Analysis (TUM).
