Description

Space is becoming increasingly important to the prosperity of societies on Earth. In the longer term, large-scale space projects (e.g. lunar settlement, space-based solar power, space exploration) could be deployed in space to the benefit of humanity. However, space is also rapidly becoming a field of conflict. It thus becomes critical to explore the interaction between these ambitious long-term, large-scale space projects and conflict in space.

The interested student shall investigate:

  • the various long-term uses of space,

  • conflict in space and the various drivers and trends affecting it,

  • the interactions and mutual connections between the two.

The thesis would be mostly performed remotely, with occasional visits to the UniBw Campus in Neubiberg.

Requirements
  • Motivation, creativity and enthusiasm for this crucial topic

  • Basic knowledge of space engineering

  • Basic knowledge of foresight and futures/scenario methods (optional)

  • Excellent command of the English language (written/spoken)

  • Self-management and organisational skills
