Engineering Project: Support Structure for the EventSat Sensors and Camera

Chair of Spacecraft Systems, TUM | Start: ASAP | 2 months, approx. 150 hours (concentrated)

EventSat is a 6U CubeSat under development at the Chair of Spacecraft Systems, heading to a Sun-synchronous orbit in 2027. We are looking for a student to design, manufacture and integrate the support structure for the satellite's two sun sensors, its deployable magnetometer and a small optical camera.

The structure has to meet competing constraints:

  • clear fields of view for the sun sensors;
  • magnetic cleanliness for the magnetometer;
  • a Sun-safe line of sight for the camera;
  • the limits of the Exolaunch deployer and the 6U structure.

You will take the part from requirements to hardware:

  • derive the requirements;
  • develop the design in CAD;
  • verify it with finite element analysis;
  • release it to manufacturing;
  • mount it on EventSat with the real sensors and camera, checking every interface.

What you get: hands-on work on a satellite that will fly, as part of the EventSat ADCS and structure teams.

What we expect:

  • working knowledge of CAD and FEA;
  • availability of about 18-20 hours per week over the two months;
  • an independent, systematic way of working.
