We are looking for a motivated student assistant (Hiwi) to support the new lecture "Design of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" (Entwurf unbemannter Fluggeräte) at the Chair of Aircraft Design.
About the Course:
The future is unmanned! The new lecture "Design of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" addresses the key topics required for unmanned flight and discusses the differences compared to the design of manned aircraft, with a focus on small unmanned aerial vehicles. Topics cover regulations, scenarios and payloads, mission definition and classification, reliability and safety, components, and the special features of UAV design. As the lecture is new, you will be directly involved in shaping the teaching material of a brand-new course.Your Tasks:
- Support in preparing and revising lecture slides and handouts.
- Literature and regulatory research (EASA/LBA framework, open/specific category, standards, design methods etc.).
- Collection and structuring of component and reference aircraft data (propulsion, batteries, avionics, airframes) for design examples.
- Creation of figures, diagrams and calculation examples.
- Preparation of exercises and accompanying material.
Requirements:
- Enrollment in aerospace engineering or a related field of study.
- Strong interest in unmanned aircraft, aircraft design and flight systems.
- Sound skills in MS Office/PowerPoint
- Careful, structured and independent way of working.
- Good command of English (lecture material is in English).
- Practical experience with UAVs or model aircraft (building, flying, RC) is a plus.
- Commitment to an average weekly working time of approx. 8-10 hours, starting 1.10.2026
