About us and the Position

The Professorship of Lunar and Planetary Exploration is a young and rapidly growing research group at the ASG Campus in Ottobrunn. We focus on both experimental and theoretical studies of the Moon and its resources.

As a student research assistant, you will support our ongoing flight hardware development projects for several upcoming lunar missions, with a focus on mechanical/mechatronic engineering of experimental test setups as well as the use of said setups to perform experimental work.

Your Tasks

  • Help to develop test setups for lunar instrument qualification and characterization.
  • Mechanical design for smaller experimental setups or ground support equipment, prototype parts (3D printing), and create drawings for metal manufacturing.
  • Build, integrate the electronics/measurement equipment, and test the hardware.
  • Assist in experimental work on the developed setups.
Voraussetzungen

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a Bachelor (later semesters) or Master student (early semesters) at TUM.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacturing.
  • Ideally, practical hands-on experience with mechanical hardware as work experience, extracurricular or hobby projects. Experience with electronics or PCB design is a plus.
  • Availability to work on-site at the Ottobrunn campus, for required hands-on lab work.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Very good command of the English language. German is a plus.

We Offer

  • A contract of 8 hours per week with standard compensation based on your qualifications.
  • The opportunity to gain long-term experience. We particularly prefer students who may stay with us for multiple semesters.
  • Insight into research and development activities in space-exploration projects within a dynamic and international environment.
  • TUM is committed to increasing the proportion of women in its workforce; therefore, applications from female students are explicitly encouraged.
