The Chair of Astrodynamics at TU Munich offers a Master’s Thesis opportunity focused on upgrading and operationally validating a satellite ground station. Ground stations are a key component of satellite missions, enabling telemetry, telecommand, tracking, and payload data reception. Reliable
and maintainable ground station infrastructure is essential for mission operations.
The objective of this thesis is to assess, improve, and document the existing ground station architecture, with particular focus on software modernization, system integration, and operational readiness. The work will include testing hardware and software components, improving communication and control functionalities, and updating the operational documentation for future users. The student will gain hands-on experience in satellite communications, software development, and standard operating procedures. Contributions to this work will support both ongoing research at the Chair of Astrodynamics
and possible upcoming satellite missions.
The work will follow systems engineering and software development best practices, including requirement definition, modular software design, version control, testing, and validation workflows.

• Basic knowledge of satellite communications, signal processing, and radio-frequency (RF) systems
• Experience with software development and/or hardware-software integration
• Familiarity with programming and scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or C/C++)
• Interest in hands-on work with electronics, antennas, and communication systems
• Ability and motivation to learn new software tools and hardware platforms
• Familiarity with LabVIEW is considered a plus
• Previous experience with satellite systems, telecommunications, embedded systems, or related projects is advantageous- Möglicher Beginn
