Beschreibung

One approach for hydrogen pressure vessels in mobile applications is the use of a thermoplastic inner liner
combined with an outer composite shell. During manufacturing, pre-impregnated fiber rovings (towpregs) are
applied to the liner under tension following defined winding patterns and angles. Precise material placement is
primarily achieved through geodesically optimized path planning.
However, in the cylindrical section of the tank, the use of high-angle helical layers results in increased material
consumption, leading to higher production costs and longer manufacturing times. One potential solution is the
targeted use of reinforcement patches in the dome area, which can substitute high-angle layers. The integration
of these reinforcement structures into the manufacturing of pressure vessels, however, is a novel approach
that requires further investigation - to understand the challenges of the application process and to develop
a suitable strategy for their implementation in the winding process.

Following an in-depth familiarization and literature review on the winding of Type 4 pressure vessels, process
parameters for the towpreg winding process with patch reinforcements will be defined. In addition, appropriate
characterization methods will be selected to evaluate the wound tanks. Based on the defined process parameters,
a winding plan will be developed and executed using the winding machine at LCC.
