As a master's student in this project, you will be an integral part of the TUM Autonomous Motorsport team, a
leading force in the field of autonomous racing. The team competes with fully autonomous, open-wheel formula
cars, including Indy Lights and Super Formula platforms, pushing the boundaries of AI-driven vehicle control.
TUM Autonomous Motorsport has a proven track record of success, including victories at prestigious competitions
such as the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL). By joining this project, you will work
at the forefront of autonomous motorsport, developing cutting-edge algorithms to enhance vehicle performance in
high-speed racing environments.
This thesis focuses on optimizing the tire warming strategy for autonomous racing using offline global raceline
optimization methods. The goal is to integrate a detailed tire model—accounting for factors such as tempera-
ture-dependent grip, wear characteristics, and heat transfer dynamics—into the optimization framework. Addition-
ally, other relevant simplified effects, such as aerodynamic cooling, heating through brake temperature, and surface
interactions, will be incorporated to refine the simulation model. The primary objective is to determine an ideal pre-
race and in-race strategy for warming tires efficiently, maximizing grip while minimizing degradation. As a po-
tential extension, the project may also explore race strategy optimization for tire management across multiple
laps, ensuring optimal performance throughout an entire race stint. The outcome of this research will directly con-
tribute to improving race performance and strategy for autonomous racing at the highest level.- Voraussetzungen
