F1TENTH
We are seeking motivated and dedicated students to contribute to the F1TENTH project, where an exciting balance between racing and research is at the forefront. F1TENTH vehicles are 1/10th scale self-driving cars meticulously designed for participation in autonomous racing series while simultaneously serving as an advanced research platform. These miniature vehicles boast cutting-edge sensors, computing platforms, and control systems, enabling them to autonomously navigate dynamic racetracks without human intervention. The captivating nature of F1TENTH offers both racing enthusiasts and researchers an exceptional opportunity to explore the frontiers of autonomous driving while enjoying the thrill of competition.
Located at the intersection of motorsports and cutting-edge research, the F1TENTH autonomous racing competition delivers an exciting and transformative experience to its participants. Teams are met with the challenge of designing and racing 1/10th scale self-driving cars on dynamic tracks, creating an environment with intense competition. In this fusion of high-speed racing and state-of-the-art technology, participants are compelled to develop and fine-tune advanced algorithms and control systems for autonomous driving.
Beyond the adrenaline of the racetrack, F1TENTH stands as a central research platform ready to drive advancements in autonomous driving technology. Students are afforded the unique opportunity to explore diverse aspects of AI, machine learning, robotics, and sensor fusion, creating groundbreaking autonomous systems. Within the dynamic and high-stakes context of autonomous racing, researchers can rigorously test their theories and algorithms, yielding valuable insights with practical implications and a transfer to autonomous vehicles driving on public streets.
Currently, we are looking for students to join us in the following areas:
- Mechanics: Constructive modification of the vehicles for race competitions as well as future off-road use
- Race track: Further development of the real-world race track layout to handle different scenarios, as well as the implementation of a benchmarking solution for different algorithms
- Perception: Object detection using LiDAR sensors, camera sensors, or sensor fusion
- Planning and Control: Implementation of different algorithms from the planning and control area into an end-to-end learning framework
