Background:

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used due to their high energy density and long lifespan, especially in electric vehicles, portable devices, and energy storage systems. An efficient Battery Management System (BMS) is crucial for the safety, performance, and longevity of such battery systems. A BMS monitors and controls the charging and discharging processes, monitors cell voltages and temperatures, and ensures balance among the cells to maintain optimal operating conditions.

Objective of the Work:

The goal of this bachelor's thesis is the development and implementation of a simple BMS for a lithium-ion battery module with 16 cells connected in series. The BMS should monitor cell voltages and temperatures and perform passive balancing after full charge.

Task Description:

  • Conduct a literature review of existing BMS technologies and analyze the requirements for a BMS for the battery module.
  • Select appropriate hardware components and design the circuits.
  • Build a functional prototype on a breadboard or PCB platform.
  • Develop software for data acquisition and processing, including the implementation of balancing logic.
  • Document and present the work.
Voraussetzungen
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and circuit design.
  • Programming skills in a language suitable for microcontrollers (e.g., Python, C/C++).
  • Interest in energy storage systems and battery technology.
  • Good English or German skills
Verwendete Technologien
