Terminal Interface Design for CAN-based Communications in Highly Automated Agricultural Vehicles

Introduction

The ISOBUS system is a standardised communications protocol that allows agricultural tractors and implements to communicate with each other. The Chair of Agrimechatronics is performing research in this area and has aims to research the user interface of this system. There is a standardised way for an implement to upload a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to a screen in the tractor cabin, and the chair is searching for motivated students to create their own system.

Background

The chair of Agrimechatronics is performing research into the area of machine-to-machine networking in agricultural machines. The current standard is the widely used ISOBUS built on top of a 250 Kbit/s CAN bus network.

The chair has a range of machines which can be made available to the student if there is interest, otherwise simulation software can be provided for home-working.

Prerequisites

  • Interest in coding/programming
  • Interest in agricultural machinery
  • Interest in communications technologies
  • Structured and independent way of working
  • Good written and spoken English

Your tasks

  • Research and analyze using hardware for GUI programming
  • Create a proof of concept implementation
  • Measure and evaluate the performance of your system
