Visually impaired individuals face significant challenges in navigating outdoor urban environments. These environments are dynamic, with various static and dynamic obstacles that make navigation difficult. There's a need for innovative technological solutions to enhance the autonomy and safety of visually impaired individuals, out of which obstacle avoidance showed to be most relevant.

The objective of this project is to develop an advanced obstacle avoidance and path planning system for blind individuals, optimized for efficient operation on edge devices like smartphones and wearables. The system should be able to combine various input modalities, such as RGB data for semantic understanding of the environment, depth and inertial data for structural insight, to effectively interpret urban landscapes. Additionally, it should be optimized for operation on resource-constrained devices like smartphones and wearables, ensuring efficiency and accessibility for users in dynamic outdoor settings.
