The Flight Safety Group of FSD has a tool which reconstructs aircraft landings from recorded flight data. This tool uses an Extended Kalman filter with a Six Degree of Freedom Aircraft model. This tool is used to postprocess recorded flight data, allowing detailed analysis of landings.
The idea of the online risk monitor for unstable approaches is to use similar techniques, however in an online fashion to predict risks of an approach in flights.
Workpackages:
- WP1: Obtain theroretical understanding of Unstable Approach Criteria / Limits
- WP2: Obtain theoretical understanding of Kalman filter/ Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoother
- WP3: Implementation of an RTS smoother for approach / final approach phase
- Focus on “online” implementation
- WP4: Implementation of an online prediction of unstable approach risk
- WP5: Analyze time horizons of reasonable predictions
